Australian authorities have sentenced a Vietnamese national to three years in jail for his role in dealing in the proceeds of crime. Notably, the authorities had found over AUD 1.7 million ($1.17m) cash, allegedly derived from drug trafficking, at the 27-year-old’s Sydney unit in May 2021.
In May 2021, as part of a larger investigation into a sophisticated crime syndicate involved in drug trafficking, the authorities found a large volume of cash being given to the driver of a vehicle. The police searched the location where the vehicle was taken, located the convict, and found over AUD 1.7m ($1.17m) in his bedroom. The authorities also seized five mobile phones and two cash counting machines, along with other items.
The man pleaded guilty to dealing in the proceeds of crime and was subsequently sentenced.
