Since the outbreak of COVID-19, some individuals have been taking advantage of the pandemic to register companies with variations of coronavirus. Companies like Corona Virus Claims Ltd, Corona Compensation Ltd, which have been registered to an address in Leeds by Marc Feldman are part of the new companies that have emerged. Feldman who was sentenced to 30 months in jail in October 2016 for involving in a 10 million euros smuggling tax fraud said he registered those companies believing that after conquering coronavirus, there would be special relief package by the government for people who have incurred one loss or the other during the outbreak, g=hence his reason to prepare for the future.UK investigators have got reports of over 500 coronavirus-related scams and more than 2,000 phishing attempts by a criminal who tried to take advantage of the situation.
Companies House has claimed that it had registered about 13 companies since late February either the name coronavirus or COVID in their title. However, there has been no report of any ill act or plan to criminalize the system by those linked with the companies as a barrister, Muthupandi Ganesha, who leads the money laundering and Asset Recovery team at Scarmans’ law firm also registered his own company named Coronavirus Refunds Ltd in March.
