The Law Enforcement Agency arrested William Anderson Burgamy, 32, a resident of Hanover with the allegation that he engaged in the unlawful distribution of medications through the Darknet, and money laundering associated with Bitcoin. A U.S Attorney, Zachary Terwilliger has appreciated the actions of the law enforcement agencies for work done, even during the outbreak. Burgamy illegally operated Darknet since August 2019, a vendor that claimed to sell medications including prescription opioids obtained for pharmacies in the United States. Investigation revealed that Burgamy would launder the proceeds from the illegal sales by withdrawing Bitcoin cryptocurrency drug payments and transfer them to several bank accounts to hide his crime.
As highlighted in the court documents, law enforcement with collaboration with the U.S Attorney’s office engaged in online undercover operations on NPRX. The agents made numerous purchases since January including prescription opioids from Burgamy’s NPRX Darknet account. The investigators then surveilled him and discovered that he embarked on trips to post office where he delivered the items. A search warrant was issued and the law enforcement uncovered thousands of prescription opioid pills and at least eight firearms, including two, loaded AR-15 assault rifles. Burgamy was consequently charged with distribution of uncontrolled substances and money laundering and could face 40 years in prison if convicted.
