Over 28,000 people were arrested in 2019 by the Dubai Police for financial crimes and Dh 12.2 billion debts were recovered. Two people were arrested in connection with multiple offences of relating to crimes of up to Dh800 million and Dh 450 million respectively. Although the police did not reveal the actual offences of those arrested but said that they have arrested 28,257 people wanted internally for financial claims, and the debts they paid after their arrest last year reached Dh12.2 billion.
Colonel Al Qemzi, a senior officer from the department of wanted persons in Dubai said the department launched a scheme that helps people find out about their financial crime status in order to encourage them to initiate settlements. The aim is to eliminate fear and help people settle their debts faster, and over 57,000 people have been helped to clear their debts so far.
