On Thursday, 26 December 2019, the former Chairman of a popular bank in China, Jiang Xiyun who was the former chairman of Hengfeng Bank has been sentenced to death by a law court on various crime cases including illegal accounting practices and collection of bribes. Three other people were also sentenced to prison on the basis of corrupt practice. However, Jiang’s lawyer claimed that the death sentence was only a result of insufficient evidence and that his defendant was locked up for 5 years and was not allowed freedom during his investigation and trials. He further said that the five years locked up of a suspect has passed the legal limit and therefore, an appeal will be made on Jiang’s behalf.
