HONOLULU — A former Waipahu high school business manager pleaded guilty Monday in Circuit Court to stealing nearly half a million dollars from the school. As part of a plea agreement, Warren Harada will have to spend time in jail and will have to pay back the money he stole.Harada’s attorney says his client decided to change his plea to take full responsibility for his actions.Harada is accused of stealing and laundering nearly $500,000 in school funds over five years as Waipahu High School’s business manager.”The basic scheme in this case was he would use state purchases orders to purchase high-end equipment, then he’d find buyers to buy the equipment,” said Chris Young, supervising deputy Attorney General.Along with the thousands of dollars he spent on high-end camera equipment and computers, the AG said Harada took his family on several trips with the money: places including Las Vegas, Rome and Copenhagen.
