The American IBI Consultants has revealed that the Panamanian government is showing reluctance in the fight against dirty money coming from Venezuela. This reluctance goes against the controls imposed by the Panama financial system to prevent and counteract money laundering. This has led to a decision that will tell hard on new customers who wish to open a bank account in Panama as they will be subjected to extensive questioning about the source of their money.
The President of IBI Consultants, Douglas Farah, insisted that there’s a flow of huge amount and money from Venezuela regime of Nicolas Maduro and also from Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). The executive president of the Banking Association of Panama, Carlos Berguido expressed very good health enjoyed by Panamanian banks as he admits the system is not infallible. However, he said that banks involved in receiving funds of dirty source in the specific issue of Venezuela risk it’s correspondents because any bank that suspects any out of the ordinary transaction has the duty to report such transaction to the Analysis Unit Financial.
