In spite of the various awareness programs of the Macau scam where a public University student was scammed RM43,470, Malaysians still seem to be vulnerable to this scam. A civil servant cried for help after she was duped of RM12,000 by a scammer who acted like a policeman.
According to the 26-year-old victim, the scammer, who impersonated the policeman from Bukit Aman Police Headquarters, called her severally and accused her of being involved in illegal activities and money laundering. The District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azhar Hamin added that the scammer instructed the woman to pay a sum of RM12,000 to cover up for her, after which the victim discovered that he was a scammer.
She later informed the police after she realized this, and the police have made an announcement that should anyone receive such calls, they should inform the police immediately so they can apprehend the culprit.
