The US authorities have carried out a series of raids nationwide and have arrested more than 600 Mexican cartels and issued 350 indictments against suspected members of the cartel gangs. According to the Department of Justice and the Drug Enforcement Administration, many of the arrests were made last week implying a huge success for the Project Python. Alongside the arrest, large quantities of illicit drugs and funds were seized from one of Mexico’s most brutal cartels led by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, also known as El Mencho.
“Project Python is the single largest strike by U.S. authorities against CJNG, and this is just the beginning,” said DEA Acting Administrator Uttam Dhillon. The project is aimed at disrupting, dismantling and destroying drug trafficking organizations all over the world while also subjecting their leaders to captivity. The Department of Justice and its law enforcement partners are set to continue to vigorously fight this scourge against the United States.
