Seven people were arrested during an early hours raid this morning (Feb 10) on a suspected brothel police believe could be a front for a £13-million money laundering enterprise.
Up to 50 officers were involved in the 5am sting on Birmingham’s Libra Club in Summerhill Road following months of surveillance by officers. ..
And West Midlands Police will now be pushing for a court closure order under the Anti-Social Behaviour Act that will see the premises forcibly shut for the next three months.
Sergeant Tony Smith, said: “It’s suspected the Libra Club has been operating as a highly-profitable brothel − making upwards of £13-million in the three years it’s been open − with up to 20 women working there at any one time and attracting 200 customers a day.
“This morning’s raid was months in the planning and is in response to concerns from local residents and a series of serious incidents there including a shotgun discharge, an arson attack and several violent disorders.
