The Ukrainian government is to table a bill in parliament on replacing the tax police, which currently operates under the State Fiscal Service, with a financial investigation service, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has said.
“Instead of the tax police, which is now a militarized unit and has earned a specific reputation, we will take a standard Western-style approach when the tax police would be disbanded and a professional financial investigation service would be created as part of the State Fiscal Service,” he said when opening a Cabinet meeting in Kyiv on Wednesday.
“It should be demilitarized, without ranks and without guns, but with brains and strong personalities, who will be able to track all the tax evasion schemes, and monitor [illegal] conversion centers and the formation of illegal tax benefits,” Yatseniuk said when presenting his vision of the new service.
