Eight residents of South Florida have pleaded guilty for alleged involvement in multi-million dollar fraud scheme and embezzlement at Miami’s Miccosukee Resort & Gaming. It was reported that the defendants manipulated electronic gaming machines run by the casino and carted away over $5 million dollars between 2011 and 2015. Four of the defendants, along with all former employees and licensees of the casino also pleaded guilty for conspiracy to steal funds, their wives also pleaded guilty of conspiracy to commit money laundering.
It was found out that the defendants manipulated the machines and generated fake vouchers which are then exchanged for cash at the casino-floor ATMs, and use the fund to acquire several investment properties in South Florida. The defendants, each face at least 20 years in prison while those convicted of conspiracy face 5 years in prison each.
